| The Sunday Ride
|
Depending on the route, the Sunday Ride is anywhere from about 37 to 45 miles in length. We meet at the Java Shack in Arlington (2507 N. Franklin St., near the intersection of Barton and Wilson just east of Fresh Fields) at 8:30.
The ride heads up Rock Creek parkway to the Art Barn/ Pierce Mill in Rock Creek Park where DC and Maryland members often join in around 9:00. The ride then heads up Beach Drive toward (but not all the way to) Viers Mill Park near Kensington, MD. This portion of the ride is totally social in nature, with the intent to not exceed about 18 mph. Single- or double-paceline is maintained depending on traffic.
We then head up Tuckerman Lane where the ride character changes to a more intense pace for those who desire it (although we try to keep it mellow and steady in the winter). Upon reaching Falls Road and turning left, there are several options for reaching Potomac, MD. From Potomac, all groups take Falls Road to Great Falls Park where we descend into the park and climb back up the hill. We take Falls to MacArthur Blvd. to Clara Barton Pkwy for the return to Georgetown and eventually the Java Shack back in Arlington where we sip lattes and eat muffins -- the best part of the ride!

Morning: The Muffin Ride Meet at the Java Shack at 6:30 am for a recovery pace loop around Arlington. Finishing this ride is as much fun as doing it. Sit back - have a muffin, coffee and talk with teammates before heading off to work. Aprox. 18mi.
The Bizarro Muffin Ride Imagine a place where sight and sound are reversed, where the slow are fast, and the fast are slow, you've entered the Bizarro zone. The Bizarro ride is intended for people who are racing the next day and looking to interleave short bursts or longer pre-race warm-up intervals on a slightly shorter ride. Amazingly, after riding into another dimension, we end up at the Java Shack for muffins where normality is restored.Starts on the VA side of the Key Bridge @ 6:30am.
